• Finally completed (?) site-wide update of all pages

• Still frustrated with QSL.net, but starting to understand more about the problems that are occurring:  They appear to be related to overall Internet traffic on the East Coast, which is where QSL.net is based out of.

February 25, 2002:  Polite rant about my frustration with QSL.net:

• Well, I'm back to looking for a new host.  I continue to have problems with accessing the site.  Even with the size of the index.html page, it should not take 30 seconds to download over the T-1 line at MSJC, and yet it does!  Here on my DSL line at home (768 kbps down), it takes much longer that it should.  The QSL.net homepage takes 10-15 seconds to download at the college, so it can't be my site, can it?  Ok, then what about all the other smaller pages? The KE6ALV.com index page takes several seconds to download here at the house.  A couple weeks ago I streamlined my index page down to about 38K, and it still took forever to download both here at home and at the college.  Something's wrong here, and it's not my site.  Several other people have confirmed the slow performance; and I have noticed it on other sites, as well.

During several ping attempts, I have experienced severe packet loss at the QSL.net server, but have been told that the problem is on my ISP's subnet.  Ok, then why do I experience packet loss on CSU.net's backbone?

Here's another thing that I've seen on several other sites hosted on QSL.net, even ones that are fairly basic pages:

Somehow these problems I'm having are with my site or my ISP?  Fine, then in that case, I'll be finding a new host ASAP.  I have been very pleased with QSL.net, but in the past several months, their performance has lagged severely.  I didn't appreciate--when contacted about the problems--both the system owner/operator and the system Webmaster blamed either my ISP's backbone, or the "flashy animated graphics" on my site.  Curious:  there's an animated banner on the home page, but somehow that's ok while my graphics aren't.

• Updates made to all pages
• As we celebrate the two-year anniversary of this site, here are some statistics:
  • Over 14,000 hits, 4,000 of which have been registered within the past 5 months
  • The site has grown to over 30 pages!

March 4, 2001

• This site has now reached 10,000 hits!!!

August 6, 2000 is the one-year anniversary of this site! Wow! I can't believe I've had it up for a year already!

• One year since being uploaded, this site has now reached almost 5,500 hits!!!
• Extreme Tracking, which has been tracking since November 2, 1999, has been reset. This was done in order to produce more accurate results for the coming 2nd year of operation of the site. Although tracking since November 1999, some of the information was inexplicably reset sometime in February of 2000.

November 27, 1999

• Wow! This site has reached a major milestone! This site has received over 1000 hits! In just 16 weeks, over one thousand people have visited this site. Many are from outside of the US, proving that this truly is the World Wide Web! Boy, am I impressed with the success of this site!

January 1993

• I was first exposed to my second hobby - Amateur Radio. I passed my tests in June, my license was issued on August 24th, 1993 and I received my license in the mail on September 4th.

November 1986

• I was first exposed to the wonderful hobby of scanning, and fell in love with it immediately.
